New Competition – Hiroshima Nagasaki by Paul Ham
Posted on 03 November 2011
We love a good competition and in our opinion, this is a great one.
Thanks to Harper Collins Publishing Australia, we have 5 copies of the new book Hiroshima Nagasaki by Paul Ham to give away. If you are unfamiliar with Paul Ham, he is the author of the highly acclaimed book Kokoda published in 2004 and shortlisted for the Walkley Award for Non-Fiction. Kokoda told the compelling story of the infamous Kokoda Track campaign from both sides of the conflict.
Paul has also written Vietnam: The Australian War which detailed the commitment to engage, through the fight over conscription and the rise of the anti-war movement, to the tactics and horror of the battlefield which sealed the fate of 50,000 Australian servicemen and women.
His latest book Hiroshima Nagasaki is no less compelling as it describes the political manoeuvring and scientific race to build the new atomic weapon. He gives powerful witness to its destruction through the eyes of eighty survivors, from 12-year-olds forced to work in war factories to wives and children who faced it alone, reminding us that these two cities were full of ordinary people who suddenly, out of a clear blue summer’s sky, felt the sun fall on their heads.
Hiroshima Nagasaki is available in hardback and retails for $55. To be in the running, all you need to do is tell us in 25 words or less “Who you would like to win a copy of the book Hiroshima Nagasaki for and why?”
Entries close 9pm (AEDST) on Sunday 13 November 2011.
