Cooking for Men
Posted on 23 March 2011
In the traditional family structure that many of us grew up with, it was unusual for blokes to cook unless it was outdoors on the BBQ.
The biggest problem with that is that men were never able to develop skills in the kitchen. When they moved out of home for the first time or were left single after a divorce or death of a spouse, they really struggled with their meals. The problem wasn’t only in how to drive the oven, it was in how to interpret a recipe and even in working out what was good or bad nutrition. For a whole older generation of men, food suddenly became whatever they could prise out of an open can.
Luckily things have changed now and there are specific cooking classes designed just for men. Cooking for Blokes (you just have to love that name!) is one place that is changing lives. Students learn knife skills, cooking techniques and methods of cookery. They even learn from a 5-star chef! The classes are hands-on so men can learn and practice their new skills. There are classes to suit all skill levels.
Cooking for Blokes is located in North Sydney but if you search online there are a number of classes becoming available through adult and community education centres. Now everyone will be able to prepare a healthy meal for themselves.
