How to set the mood for romance
Posted on 01 February 2011
Valentine’s Day is rapidly approaching and burdening blokes the world over.
She has her sights set on a romantic dinner, complete with flowers, diamonds and French champagne, and he envisages snuggling up on the couch, arm around his love, beer in one hand, remote in the other and a classic Bruce Willis, or possibly the cricket, on screen.
Setting a romantic mood clearly has its challenges.
Tips For Her:
• Tell him exactly what you want. Fluttering eyes and gushing “surprise me” will get you’re a night in front of the telly. You might get flowers, or control of the remote for a limited time;
• Sledgehammer hints like “ooh, I LOVE that place” are far too subtle, as is “buy me that”;
• Blokes aren’t really into cosy chats over a nice meal. They will, however, forgo the chat for a nice meal;
• Especially if you cook it up and serve it to him. Scantily clad just adds to the romance for him;
• Just don’t get in the way of the TV when Bruce Willis shoots that other guy, or Ponting hits a six.
Tips For Him:
• Colin Firth has got it. Watch some chick flicks and learn. Yes, women really do love candles and rose petals strewn about, especially when they say they don’t;
• Waving your tackle (not the fishing sort) at her is not technically “romantic”;
• Waving a vacuum part at her, then proceeding to vacuum the floor is “romantic”;
• Especially if you’ve just strewn rose petals around the house;
• Make the effort and cook her a meal. Turn the lights down, light some candles and pour her favourite wine. Scantily clad does not work in this scenario. Please wear pants.
So there you go. It’s really not as hard as it first appears, is it?
