New TV Channel for Blokes
Posted on 19 August 2010
Channel 7 has announced a new TV station which targets men between the ages of 16 and 49. It is to be called 7mate and launches on 25 Septenber with the AFL Grand Final.
This is a free to air digital station so you will need digital TV or a set top box to be able to see it. It will run lots of US sit coms and comedy cartoons such as the family guy, along with sport.
Seven’s head of programming Tim Worner says 7mate is after “the most elusive demographic in media”. Mumbrella, a site which reports on Australian media, says that “In a concern for Ten’s sports channel One, the positioning also gives Seven the potential to show more live sport once the long-awaited government review of the rules on free to air sports is completed.” Can you imagine the male bliss of a tv station filled with live and free sport?
It will be interesting to see how the station goes. How often does your bloke watch TV? The image of the Aussie male sitting in front of the TV on the couch with a beer while he wastes his weekend isn’t really accurate these days, is it?
The shows are all very blokey. Sport, Family Guy, Air Crash Investigations, Monster Garage, Fifth Gear, The Universe and Life After People are just some of the shows on the list. Advertisers who target males will love it. Finally here is a chance to reach them! I hope they use it to push the message about male health, too.
Good luck with your bloke channel, Channel 7. Use it wisely.
