I hope you all enjoyed spending Father’s Day with your Dads or remembering him in some way.

I found this clip today and it seemes appropriate.  It’s a gently hunourous look back at the way one mad was raised by his dad.  I hope you enjoy it.

Welcome to the weekly edition of “That’s A Wrap”, a roundup of all that’s new & hot this week at Gifts for Blokes.

What’s New

What’s Hot

Extra Bits

It was all about Father’s Day this week! There should be lots of happy Dads this year! We wish all Dads a very happy Fathers Day and hope they get totally spoilt!

We were very excited to receive the new Dr Who Dalek remote controls – they come in 2 sizes, a huge 12 inch Dalek which could take over your house. And the 6 inch Daleks available in either Red or Blue, purchase 1 to use on its own or purchase 2 and watch them battle.

Also back in stock are the Dr Who Tardis cookie jars.

We have also received boxes of new goodies for indoor living and hope to have these up on the website soon, plus we have some new competitions on the way soon, so watch the competitions page for updates. We have also announced the winners of the Fathers Day competition, we had loads of entries and they were all so good, but we finally narrowed the field down to our 3 winners. And judging the entries we found Dads certainly have a unique way of expressing themselves at times.

Have a great weekend, until next time :)

And The Stig is……..Revealed!

Posted on 2 September 2010 | 1 response

Well, it has finally happened.  The Stig has become a real person with a real name whether we like it or not.

The BBC has lost its fight to keep The Stig’s identity a secret.

If you watch Top Gear you will know that much of the fun is built around The Stig as a character.  He is a mystery man full of strange habits such as listening to language tapes as he drives at top speed around the racing track.  He has been a faceless, helmeted man in white racing overalls.

The driver who is The Stig has written an autobiography in which he reveals his role in the Top Gear show.  Of course, the BBC wasn’t too happy because they fear it will take away some of the fun from the show.

What do you think?  Do you want to know who he is?  Will it make a difference to you?

I’m not going to mention his name here because I prefer to think of The Stig as a mystery man and the figure who hides inside my soap and my alarm clock every morning!

The Loo Book’s Back!

Posted on 31 August 2010 | Comments Off

The Ultimate Loo Book is back in stock.  This is one of our best sellers and you’ve been asking for it so here it is.

This is a compilation of Mitchell Symons bestselling books ( This Book, That Book, and The Other Book) and it’s full of totally useless trivia and information.

For example, did you know that:

• A snail has about 25,000 teeth?
• Thomas Edison, inventor of the light bulb, was afraid of the dark?
• The strongest muscle in the body is the tongue?
• Stalin’s left foot had webbed toes?
• Jellyfish sometimes evaporate?
• Iggy Pop is allergic to milk?

You never know when you might need some of these details especially if you’re in the habit of going to Trivia Nights or betting with your mates.

Actually, it’s a great gift for anyone with a curious mind but Dad will love it on Father’s Day.  After all, don’t Dad’s like to know it all?

In honour of our Dad’s I thought I would make a list of the things that he never actually said to his daughters except in our dreams. If you’re a bloke this list might not all apply to you.

Do any of these sound familiar?

10 things my Dad never said to me:

1.  You don’ really need a job. Stay with us forever.

2.  I really love that boyfriend of yours….

3.  Let me by that car for you.

4.  Here, take the keys to my car…..

5.  Darling, you really need a new dress/shirt/shoes….. Let’s go shopping.

6.  Your girlfriends are sweet and I really don’t mind it when they scream suddenly and make me jump up in terror.

7.  Honey, I think it’s a bill.  Just let me handle it.

8.  I knew you liked them that’s why I bought you these ……(diamonds?  chocolate? super-high stilettos?)

9.  You just stay there and I’ll help Mum with the cooking.

10. You are so talented. Sing me another song….

What he DID say to us, though, was “I love you” and he used his own special way to show it, didn’t he?

Don’t forget how much he loves you and how much you really love him.  Buy him something wonderful on Father’s Day.

New TV Channel for Blokes

Posted on 19 August 2010 | Comments Off

Channel 7 has announced a new TV station which targets men between the ages of  16 and 49.  It is to be called 7mate and launches on 25 Septenber with the AFL Grand Final.

This is a free to air digital station so you will need digital TV or a set top box to be able to see it.  It will run lots of US sit coms and comedy cartoons such as the family guy, along with sport.

Seven’s head of programming Tim Worner says 7mate is after “the most elusive demographic in media”.    Mumbrella, a site which reports on Australian media, says that “In a concern for Ten’s sports channel One, the positioning also gives Seven the potential to show more live sport once the long-awaited government review of the rules on free to air sports is completed.”  Can you imagine the male bliss of a tv station filled with live and free sport?

It will be interesting to see how the station goes.  How often does your bloke watch TV?  The image of the Aussie male sitting in front of the TV on the couch with a beer while he wastes his weekend isn’t really accurate these days, is it?

The shows are all very blokey.  Sport, Family Guy, Air Crash Investigations, Monster Garage, Fifth Gear, The Universe  and Life After People are just some of the shows on the list.  Advertisers who target males will love it.  Finally  here is a chance to reach them!   I hope they use it to push the message about male health, too.

Good luck with your bloke channel, Channel 7.  Use it wisely.
