Share a cookie and a cuppa with Dr. Who.

Dr. Who tea
“Tea! That’s all I needed! Good cup of tea! Super-heated infusion of free-radicals and tannin, just the thing for healing the synapses…”

If it’s good enough for Dr. Who, it’s good enough for the rest of us.  Let’s all take tea with the good doctor.  Luckily we have the perfect vessels back in stock.

First let’s begin with the Tardis Cookie Jar. The ceramic cookie jar is shaped exactly like the Tardis and has a rubber seal around the lid to keep your biscuits nice and fresh. At around 23cm high it holds a lot of cookies!

New in stock (we’re really excited about this one) is the Dr Who Tardis ceramic teapot. The teapot is shaped like the Tardis and holds 750ml. Any true tea drinker will tell you that a cup of tea does not taste right unless it comes out of a pot.  Dr. Who would surely agree with you.

You can then sip your tea from the Dr Who Tardis Mug with removable lid. This ceramic mug is shaped like the Tardis and has a removable lid to help keep your cuppa warm as your travel through time. At about 16cm high it holds a decent drink!

For those times when the Tardis Mug is exhausted (or in the dishwasher) you might like to treat yourself to the Dalek Heat Change Mug.  Watch as one of the Doctors arch enemies appears to come to life and change colour.

Dr.Who Dalek Mug

The Dalek – what form of trickery is he up to now!

Starting out as a Blue Dalek, watch him transform into a Yellow Dalek as you add hot water to the ceramic mug.

If you or your bloke is a Dr. Who fan these are essential to your morning or afternoon tea enjoyment.

Which is your favourite?

Gifts Go Retro

Posted on 16 May 2013 | Comments Off

Stuck for a gift idea? How about a blast from the past?

We have just introduced a fantastic new range of retro style gifts for men which invoke memories of days gone by.

These reproduction gifts have a retro style feel and look but without the hefty original vintage/retro price tag.

The retro range includes some of our existing stock such as the famous Duncan the Drinking Bird and the Record Label Coaster Set.  We have now been able to extend the range because nostalgic gifts have become really popular.

Maybe our blokes really do have a soft spot in them somewhere!

In addition to Pacman and Space Invader themed gifts we have some really great tin toys.  These are the toys that your father or grandfather would have played with.

The tin toys aren’t designed for children.  They are reproduction toys meant for adult collectors.

Look at the Green Bugatti Race Car.  It winds up ready to race as does the Red Race Car.  I’d have to have the red because we know red is always faster.  These are around 19cm long and come packaged in a vintage/retro style box.

If you really want to go fast, take a look at the Wind up metal tin toy Rocket.  OK, it doesn’t fly but I’ve got a great imagination.  Just wind up the rocket and it opens a door to reveal an astronaut.

My current favourite tin toy would have to be the wind up Golfer. He’s a little tin toy golfer on the green and all ready to putt. Wind him up and see how well he putts.

If your bloke loves vintage/retro collectibles you need to keep an eye on this range.  We will be adding more to it shortly.

New Competition! Man Rules

Posted on 14 May 2013 | Comments Off

Tell us your “Man Rules

What are your rules for the men in your life?

Is it a rule related to what may or may not happen with the TV remote or maybe something to do with “that” toilet seat?

We want you to share your most important rule for any of the men in your life. They may be rules that your men know about or they could be those silent and sneaky rules that we set and then keep watching until…

Just as an example, I will let you in on one of our man rules: Man to be supervised while any trees are pruned or trimmed!  This is to ensure that there is some of the tree still left standing.

I’m sure you can work out why this rule exists at our place!

So, what rules exist at your place?

Think about dirty laundry, work boots, driving the car, use of tools, teasing the kids…honestly, it’s a wonder we don’t have a huge list of rules pinned to the front door, isn’t it?

Send in your rules and we can all have a laugh about them.

So what’s up for grabs?

We have 6 prizes. Each of the six winners will receive an $80 Gifts for Blokes voucher to spend online at Gifts for Blokes.  You can spend it or he can – the choice is yours.

Visit our competition page for more details.

Entries close midnight (aest) Friday May 31, 2013.

50 Sheds Of Grey

Posted on 10 May 2013 | 1 response

Men, if you love a laugh you must read 50 Sheds of Grey. But I’d hide the book from your wife or she will want to read it, too.

Colin Grey’s life was happy and simple until the day everything changed – the day his wife read THAT book. Suddenly, he was thrust head-first into a dark, illicit world of pleasure and pain.

This hilarious book is a parody of the infamous book ’50 Shades of Grey”. It is based on the tweets of Twitter user @50ShedsofGrey. Described as “A compilation of shed erotica for the not-so-modern man…this is the story of one man’s struggle against a tide of tempestuous, erotic desire and of the greatest love of all: the love between a man and his shed”.

This is all about erotica from a man’s point of view – a REAL man.

The book is so popular that it actually outsold the original novel in many bookshops. The Twitter account which spawned the book now has over 103,000 followers!

50 Sheds of Grey is genuinely funny. Get yourself a copy now. You’ll find it in the What’s New section on our website.

WARNING: This book contains graphic shed-based images. Please don’t look if you are easily offended.

What’s for breakfast bubs?

Posted on 7 May 2013 | Comments Off

Sometimes getting food into a bloke is not the easiest thing to do especially first thing in the morning.  When it’s a child it can be even more difficult.

No matter how big or small you are, breakfast is the most important meal of the day.  For children who really need the nutrients to help them grow, it is essential.

The Baby Breakfast Set is perfect to keep bubs amused long enough to get some breakfast into him.

Kick start the little bloke’s day with this bright and fun breakfast set which includes a plate, bowl, mug, fork and spoon.  Made from melamine, it is tough and durable and the colours won’t fade over time.

The set is decorated with a cartoon style dog and bone and is suitable for boys and girls, too.

Of course, now you need something delicious to feed your little bloke and this recipe from Epicurious is perfect.

Baked Banana-Stuffed French Toast (serves 4 so you might get to try it, too!)

  • 4 ripe bananas, peeled, each cut into 4 pieces
  • 8 thin slices light (reduced-fat) mixed-grain bread
  • 1/2 cup nonfat milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of ground cinnamon
  • Nonstick vegetable oil spray
  • Powdered sugar
  • 8 large strawberries
  • Pure maple syrup (optional)

Preheat oven to 350°F.  Place 4 pieces of banana on each of 4 bread slices; mash banana on bread.  Top with remaining 4 bread slices.  Whisk milk, eggs, vanilla extract and cinnamon in glass pie dish.  Working in batches, dip bread in egg mixture; let soak 45 seconds on each side.

Spray large nonstick pan with vegetable oil spray.  Heat over medium heat.  Working in batches, add French toast to pan and cook until golden, about 2 minutes per side.  Transfer to baking sheet; bake 8 minutes.  Transfer to plates.  Dust with powdered sugar.  Garnish with strawberries.  Serve with maple syrup, if desired.

We Just Won An Award!

Posted on 25 April 2013 | Comments Off

This week I received an email from WOMO, which stands for Word Of Mouth Online.  It is a review site where customers submit their reviews and feedback about businesses they have used.

The site encourages people to share real and detailed reviews about the products and customer service they have experienced with a range of businesses.  Because it is a community service site, no business can “buy” great reviews.

WOMO has just announced the winners of its 2012 Service Awards. Less than 5% of all businesses listed on WOMO qualify for the award.

Well, we won a WOMO Service Award for 2012!  Can you imagine how excited we are?

On behalf of the team at Gifts For Blokes I want to thank you all for being fabulous customers.  I offer special thanks to those of you who took the time to share your opinions on WOMO.

Thank you all.  We are off to celebrate!

If you’d like to know more about the WOMO Awards just click here.  If you would like to see our reviews, pop over to WOMO.

May The 4th

Posted on 23 April 2013 | Comments Off

May the 4th allows Star Wars fans to come together in celebration all over the world.  Dubbed Star Wars Day, on May the 4th, get ready to hear the cries of “may the 4th be with you” in honour of the great Star Wars catchphrase “may the force be with you”.

While it may seem like something which was coined in the last decade, records show that it was actually printed in the London Evening News in 1979 when Margaret Thatcher became the first female Prime Minister.  In celebration, her party took out an ad in the newspaper saying “‘May the Fourth Be With You, Maggie. Congratulations.”

May the 4th is particularly important to Star Wars fans, as it seems to kick off a season of celebration, and as history shows, May has always been an important date to the culture of Star Wars.  The six live-action movies of the Star Wars saga debuted in May, Star Wars Weekends are held at Walt Disney World Resort during May and even George Lucas’ birthday is in May (May 14 to be exact).

2013 in particular is going to be great fun for Star Wars fans as May 25 marks the 30th anniversary of the epic film Return of the  Jedi.

If you want to join in the Star Wars fun, then make sure you look around your community to see what events are happening in your area.  We have a great range of Star Wars gifts and collectibles to help make the month of May memorable including hooded bathrobes in three great designs (Galactic Empire, R2D2 and Jedi style).

And in honour of the day…May the 4th be with you!

Calling All Doctor Who Fans…

Posted on 19 April 2013 | Comments Off

The Monopoly Doctor Who Special Collector’s Edition has arrived!  And what’s special about this edition is the fact that it is the 50th Anniversary Edition featuring all eleven doctors.  You no longer have to choose between Matt Smith, David Tennant, Peter Davison or Tom Baker, they are all represented on the board alongside their best loved companions as well as the monsters and baddies from across space and time.

Of course the Monopoly game pieces are represented not by the classic top hat and thimble, but by a sonic screwdriver, umbrella, celery, recorder, bow tie and scarf.  What’s more, this anniversary edition has a unique set of U.N.I.T and Gallifrey cards.

Referencing 22 iconic episodes including “The Poison Sky”, “A Good Man Goes to War”, “Genesis of the Daleks” and “Omega” as well as memorable artwork, it will allow you to channel your inner “Doctor”.

Just like an episode of Doctor Who, anything can happen; and just like the “Doctor”, you get to travel billions of years across the Doctor Who universe, defeating your foes.

Monopoly Doctor Who is perfect for fans young and old (8 and above), so get ready to E-X-T-E-R-M-I-N-A-T-E the competition.  It’s definitely an adventure like no other as you revisit 50 years of this amazing show!

You should contemplate bringing out the Doctor Who Teapot to go with it, as you might be in for the long haul, although the board does offer a 60-minute speed-play option for those with time constraints.

If you know a die-hard Doctor Who fan or Whovian, then we recommend you act quick and snap these up as we don’t expect them to last long at all.

Get those jellybeans ready and GO, and of course don’t forget to collect $200 when you pass the Daleks.

Driving The Mars Rover

Posted on 17 April 2013 | Comments Off

If you watch The Big Bang Theory and have always wanted your turn at running the Mars Rover into a ditch on the surface of Mars, here’s your chance.

OK, it’s not the real thing but would you really want to risk it?  Imagine the wrath of the NASA burning down on you!

Howard: I need you and Raj to help me get the Rover out of the ditch, and I need you to get Stephanie out before somebody notices she’s here.  She doesn’t exactly have clearance.

Sheldon: Really?  They don’t let strange women from honky-tonks come in and play with $200million government projects on distant planets?

This is a Wi-Fi Rover 2.0 with Video Recording.

It features a remote controlled tilting camera which allows you to stalk family members and pets, all while controlling it from another room.  (Howard and Raj would love this as they virtually stalk Penny from across the hall.)

You can also record videos and take snapshots of your adventures and playback or view from your device.  Navigate the Rover with the on-screen controls or enable the G-sensor and use your iPhone® or iPad® like a steering wheel.

This would be a fantastic gift for anyone who loves remote control vehicles or space toys.

Oh, if you don’t watch The Big Bang Theory and you’re wondering how they got the Mars Rover out of the ditch – they didn’t!  They wiped all the data from the computers so no one could tell who had been driving.  Phew.

New Superman In The House

Posted on 11 April 2013 | Comments Off

It is no secret that a new baby in the house can make any bloke feel an overwhelming sense of pride.

There is no doubt either that both mums and dads think their precious little bundle is the bee’s knees, the cat’s pyjamas … absolutely SUPER! Dads especially just love to show off their pride, and what better way to show just how awesome their new baby boy is than making him a Super Baby!

The Super Baby outfit for the new man in your life not only covers the basics your new baby will need, but it is 100% cotton for comfort and easy cleaning.

Suitable for bubs aged from birth to six months, the Super Baby set includes:

  • A blue baby grosuit emblazoned with “Super baby” in red
  • A yellow hat adorned with the phrase “To do: save the world” and
  • A bright red bib, stating “Mini super hero cape” for those all important feeding times

It comes encased in a Super Baby tin, useful once the outfit is removed for housing little bloke related paraphernalia, from nappy pins and keepsakes to spare dummies and your secret chocolate stash. Down the track, as your little bloke grows, he can use it for his collection of football cards and live bugs.

Whether you’re buying as a gift for someone else, or as a present for your own “little bloke”, the tin makes the gift wrapping process defunct and your life easier. Whoever it is for, you’ll be ensuring everyone knows just how super this new little man is!
